Did you know you can eat certain foods to replace supplements!
How many supplements do you take every day? Americans spend over $1.5 billion on dietary supplements and vitamins each year. Walk into any grocery store and you'll find isles full of vitamins and supplements.
In the same store, a few isles away are the natural foods that contain the vitamins and minerals found in the supplements
We seem to have lost track of how to properly eat to get our vitamins and minerals. We live in a world where we think we can eat anything and take a supplement to correct deficiencies.
What food should we eat every day to replace supplements?
Recently I compiled a list of foods I've learned to eat on a daily basis to reduce the number of supplements I take. When I eat these foods I feel healthier and save money. I prefer to get my nutrients through the foods I eat.
I remember when I first read the book The Four Hour Body by Tim Ferriss. He pointed out how a couple Brazil Nuts and a few almonds a day were full of nutrients.
Next I purchased the book The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth and continued adding to my daily list. Before I knew it, I was eating healthier, losing weight and feeling better!
You can also find nutrition apps for the computer and smartphone that list the top foods for each mineral or nutrient.
The key is to start creating your daily habits of eating the right foods to avoid taking supplements.
In the process you'll find yourself making better and healthier food choices!
Pre 1800's supplements
Before the modern age of supplements there were many common cures. Many have been replaced by supplements or disappeared.
Herbalists for centuries have given certain prescriptions for many ailments.
You can find “cures” in old cookbooks or handed down from generation to generation. Old “wives tales” and “grandma's secrets.” Eat this food for this cure, drink this broth for this cure, etc.
